Course

ME225(MCSDDS) - Modeling and Control of Spatially Distributed Dynamical Systems

Units: 4

Instructor(s): Bamieh

Syllabus:

Modeling and control of spatially distributed systems described by partial differential equations. The emphasis will be on linear PDE systems, and how they can be viewed as infinite dimensional generalizations of standard ODE systems. The material in the course will be strongly motivated by physical examples. The emphasis will be on spatially distributed arrays of dynamical systems, and problems from hydrodynamic stability and transition to turbulence.

Detailed description:

Modelling, dynamics and control of spatially distributed systems such as those described by partial differential equations and dynamical systems on lattices. The emphasis will be on linear, constructive and algebraic techniques. The material in the course will be strongly motivated by physical examples. Prototype problems from spatially distributed arrays of dynamical systems and hydrodynamic stability will be used to illustrate the theory.
